About Part of the family - Barry

An Exclusive Retreat for Your Best Friend

At Part of the Family - Barry, we offer a home-from-home boarding experience where dogs are treated exactly as the name suggests — like part of the family.

We only accept one household at a time, so your dog gets our full attention, a calm environment, and a consistent routine without the stress of multiple unfamiliar dogs. Whether it’s cuddles on the sofa, relaxed walks, or sticking closely to their usual routine, our focus is always on making your dog feel safe, settled, and genuinely at home.

We are fully licensed and operate in line with all local authority requirements, so you can have peace of mind that your dog is in a safe and compliant environment.

One Dog at a Time

We deliberately choose quality over quantity. By only taking one booking at a time, your dog receives my full, undivided attention. No crowded kennels, no competition for space—just a calm, familiar home where they are treated exactly like a member of our family.

Calm Environment — A peaceful home setting without the stress of multiple dogs.

Good Communication— Daily photo updates so you can see how your dog is doing.

Hi, I’m Ashley

Ashley is originally from Barry and is a tattoo artist by trade, bringing a creative eye and calm, patient approach to everything he does. He’s happiest outdoors; whether that’s hiking, running, camping or climbing, and he also enjoys staying active with gyming, football and squash.

Ashley has previously owned both a bichon frisé, a malamute and a miniature schnauzer, giving him hands-on experience with very different breeds and temperaments. He’s confident and comfortable with dogs of all sizes and personalities, and genuinely enjoys getting to know each dog as an individual.

Why We're Different

Licensed & Insured

Your peace of mind is our priority. We are fully licensed by the local authority and comprehensively insured, ensuring your dog is in safe and professional hands.

Cage-Free Home

We provide a warm, cage-free environment where your dog is treated like family. They'll have full access to our calm home and secure garden, just like they do with you.

Individual Attention

Our 'one booking at a time' policy means Barry focuses entirely on your dog. No busy packs—just personalized care, long walks, and regular photo updates.

Based in Barry

We’re based in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan — a fantastic location for dog care, with access to a wide variety of beautiful walking spots.

From the coastline at Jackson’s Bay and Barry Island to the open green spaces of Porthkerry Country Park and the peaceful surroundings of Romilly Park, there are plenty of options for safe, enriching walks tailored to each dog’s needs.

We’re also lucky to have the Brecon Beacons and the Gower within easy reach, so we often head out for longer walks and hikes at the weekends.

Whether your dog enjoys relaxed strolls or more active adventures, we’re fortunate to have such a diverse range of environments nearby to keep them happy, stimulated, and well exercised.
